Spring Into Action: Tips for Getting Your John Deere Equipment Running Smoothly All Mowing Season
As spring approaches and lawns come back to life, now is the perfect time to prepare your John Deere equipment for a full, trouble-free mowing season. A little early-season maintenance goes a long way toward preventing downtime, improving cut quality, and extending the life of your machine. Before grass growth takes off, follow these smart, simple steps to get your equipment in peak condition.
1. Sharpen Mower Blades
Sharp blades are a must! Winter storage can leave blades dull or worn, which stresses your engine and tears grass instead of cleanly slicing it. We recommend inspecting and replacing any worn or damaged mower blades before the season begins. If your blades show nicks, bends, or thin edges, replacement is the best option for optimal performance.
2. Check and Replace Belts & Filters
Belts and air filters often degrade during long storage periods. A quick inspection now can prevent mid-season breakdowns later. They should be checked and replaced as part of early-spring equipment maintenance, helping machines run more efficiently and reducing engine strain. Be sure to look for cracks or fraying on belts and ensure your air filter is clean, dry, and debris-free.
3. Inspect Overall Wear
Proper tire pressure ensures level mowing, better traction, and improved maneuverability. Checking tire pressure and fluid levels before beginning spring work, especially after winter storage when pressure commonly drops. Low or uneven tire pressure can result in: uneven mowing height, reduced fuel efficiency, added wear on your mower deck.
4. Prep Your Supporting Tools
Make sure you have your EGO, STIHL, and other tools ready to go as well! Ensure all of your battery-powered equipment is charged and functioning properly. Check our batteries for corrosion or swelling and ensure chargers are working properly.
5. Schedule a Service Appointment
Lastly, don't forget to schedule a service appointment at your local SunSouth dealership! We are here to help with any service questions you may have or the service you're not comfortable doing yourself! If your mower or tractor hasn't had a full tune-up in a while, now is the best time to book a preseason service appointment.
