How to Winterize your John Deere Mower
How to Winterize your John Deere Mower
With cooler months upon us, it is important to prepare your lawn mower for storage during winter. While you are not using your mower in the winter, follow these steps so that you’ll be ready to go once Spring arrives.
- Clean Your Mower
Take the time to clean off your mower before you put it up for the season. Grass, debris, mud, etc., caked on the spindles and blades will be harder to remove once it has hardened and settled. An easy and fast way to clean off a mower is to take a leaf blower and quickly blow off all the remnants of your last cut.
- Change the Oil & Filters
Go ahead and change the oil to prevent any engine damage. You can have your mower serviced by a service technician or purchase a home maintenance kit to do it yourself. Also, be sure to check if the filters need to be replaced while changing the oil.
- Use a Fuel Preservative
If you still have gas in the tank and don’t want to drain it out, a fuel preservative will help the gas from going stale before the next use. Old, stale gas can clog fuel filters and valves, so this is a crucial step when winterizing any mower.
- Store in a Clean, Dry Place
Once you’ve completed the steps above, it’s time to place the mower in a clean and dry place until it’s time to use it again in the Spring. All of these steps will help ensure that the mowers’ performance and longevity are maximized.
