The engine uses the latest technologies to optimize fuel economy, improve control and accuracy, and reduce environmental impact.

The common rail system (CRS) optimizes fuel economy and reduces operating costs*. High-pressure injection atomizes fuel into finer particles which burn more completely. It results in improved fuel economy and lower cost of operation.

The electronic control unit (ECU) provides optimum fuel control and accuracy. ECU monitors and controls the engine. It continuously monitors engine conditions and adjusts the fuel delivery accordingly to ensure optimum performance and emissions.

The new engine comes with an after treatment system. The system operates automatically. The exhaust filter consists of a diesel particulate filter (DPF) which captures particulate matter (PM) contained in the exhaust gas. Using a natural cleaning process, most of the PM trapped in the exhaust filter is eliminated by the heat of the exhaust stream generated by normal use. In situations of low temperature, engine speed or load factor, an active cleaning cycle is initiated. In this cleaning cycle, the exhaust gas temperature is raised by injecting additional fuel during the exhaust stroke of normal vehicle operation to the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC).

After many hours of use, the exhaust filter may require an ash removal service.

NOTE: *As compared to engines not using CRS technology.

DPF cleaning

Depending on the load that the tractor is under, as well as ambient temperature, humidity, and engine speed, the DPF may build up with particulate matter, thus requiring cleaning. Filter cleaning is determined by one of three conditions:

  • A prescribed time-based estimation of needed filter cleaning
  • DOC/DPF pressure sensors
  • A particulate matter buildup estimation based on load conditions

Once one of the three conditions has been met, filter cleaning will occur.

There are three different types of filter cleaning processes:

  • Passive filter cleaning
  • Active filter cleaning
  • Parked filter cleaning

Passive filter cleaning

Passive filter cleaning occurs naturally when the engine is generating enough heat to oxidize particulate matter. This automatic process occurs continuously during normal operating conditions. No tractor icons or symbols appear on the display during passive filter cleaning.

NOTE: Passive filter cleaning requires no operator involvement, and there is no interruption to tractor operation.

Active filter cleaning

If conditions (temperature, load, or speed) for passive filter cleaning cannot be achieved, then PM is removed using active filter cleaner.

To achieve the required conditions, exhaust temperature management (ETM) manages the initiation and duration of active filter cleaning. ETM can adjust numerous engine parameters and/or inject a small quantity of fuel into the exhaust stream for a short duration. The fuel turns to vapor and chemically reacts with the catalysts in the DOC to create heat to oxidize PM.

It is important to note that at no time is the fuel in the DOC/DPF ignited, and there is no flame within the DOC/DPF.

Like passive filter cleaning, active filter cleaning requires no operator involvement, and there is no interruption to tractor operation.

Parked filter cleaning

In some instances where passive and active filter cleaning have not fully cleaned the PM from the system, a parked filter cleaning may need to take place. Most likely, the only time a parked filter cleaning will need to occur is when automatic filter cleaning has been disabled for an extended period of time and multiple warnings to engage filter cleaning were ignored or if the tractor has been used during light load conditions. Additionally, when the automatic filter cleaning process has been deliberately interrupted multiple times, or if active filter cleaning has failed numerous times due to a failed component, a parked filter cleaning may be requested. In these rare instances the operator will have to park the tractor and start the filter cleaning process.

The parked filter cleaning process needs to be activated based on usage and operation of the tractor. The process will take approximately 30 minutes. See operator’s manual for more details.

This system constantly monitors the soot level of the tractor, making sure the tractor is always in peak performance condition. This ensures high performance at all times.

NOTE:  Number of hours since last regeneration and soot level percentage viewable on LCD display.

PowrReverser transmission allows for clutchless direction changes
PowrReverser transmission lever PowrReverser transmission lever

The 12/12 PowrReverser transmission is available on the 4M and 4R Tractors.

The PowrReverser transmission offers a hydraulically shifted forward-to-reverse transmission. This allows for clutchless shuttle shifting between forward and reverse with one lever for quick and easy direction change.

  • PowrReverser transmission does not require the operator to use the clutch to shift between forward and reverse

The PowrReverser transmission features a hydraulically actuated wet clutch. Two multi-disk clutch packs (one forward and one reverse) are hydraulically engaged when the directional (reverser) lever is placed in either the forward or reverse position.

Each clutch pack consists of three large, 5-in. diameter clutch disks that operate in oil and are oil-cooled, allowing excellent heat dissipation and extended clutch life.

Forward/reverse clutches Forward/reverse clutches
  • Clutch A is used for the forward operation of the tractor
  • Clutch B is used for the reverse operation of the tractor

Key features of the PowrReverser transmission:

  • 12 forward/12 reverse (12F/12R) speeds
  • Reverser lever, located on the left side of the instrument console, allows the operator to make direction changes without clutching
    • Fast shuttle shift for improved loader operation
  • Dual-cone synchronizers allow for synchronized shifts between gears for on-the-go shifting with the use of the clutch
  • Dual-cone synchronizers permit on-the-go, low-effort shifting between gears
  • Helical-cut gears for quiet operation

  • Dual wet-disk clutches provide long clutch life
  • Shifts between ranges are not synchronized
  • PowrReverser transmission models have both hand and foot throttle controls
  • Especially handy when using a loader

The tractor is available with a three-range electronic hydrostatic (eHydro) transmission.

  • Fluid under pressure transmits engine power to the drive wheels using a pump and motor
  • Functions both as a clutch and transmission
  • Provides high torque for startup
  • Reduces powertrain shock loads

Danfoss® supplies both the pump and motor. This ensures that the components are matched to each other, providing maximum efficiency.

The electronic hydrostatic transmission is ideally suited for jobs where productivity is a must, such as loader or mower applications.

Twin Touch™ foot controls allow the operator to select both directions of travel and speed with a touch of the toe.

Key features of the eHydro transmission:

  • Infinitely variable ground speeds, in each range, allow the operator to match the speed of the tractor to the job.
  • No clutching means fast and easy direction changes.
  • Twin Touch foot pedals provide quick and easy forward/reverse operation.
  • Cruise control is standard equipment:
    • Cruise control switch is located on the right-hand console for easy access.

Key John Deere advantage
Twin Touch foot controls Twin Touch foot controls
#

John Deere's Twin Touch foot controls offer key advantages over competitive hydro model tractors.

  • Some competitive hydrostatic tractors use a treadle pedal designed (toe-heel) foot control for operation of the hydro.
    • Requires the operator to use both toe and heel to change direction, resulting in increased operator fatigue
Integrated eHydro features

The eHydro convenience controls have been integrated into a single module. Combining features such as SpeedMatch™ LoadMatch™, MotionMatch, eThrottle, and automotive-style cruise control pulls the maximum efficiency out of the eHydro transmission tractors. All these features are standard on the 4M Heavy Duty and 4R models and deliver customers an easier and more comfortable experience.

LoadMatch power management system
LoadMatch indicator LoadMatch indicator
#

LoadMatch is a standard feature on the 4M Heavy-Duty and 4R Series Tractors.

If torque requirements increase significantly, the transmission will reduce the tractor's drive speed to compensate for the increased load on the transmission, maximizing torque to drive wheels and minimizing stalls.

Controls automatically adjust LoadMatch compensation depending on the tractor’s application. PTO applications require less engine speed fluctuation, therefore adjusting the amount of droop depending on PTO speed. This adjustment increases efficiency and optimizes engine speed and torque output based on tractor application.

While typically left on, LoadMatch can be turned off with the right-hand console controls.

MotionMatch

MotionMatch, standard on the 4M Heavy-Duty and 4R Series Tractors, is located on the right-hand console. It offers seven settings for adjusting the rollout or decelerating when the pedal is released.

SpeedMatch, standard on the 4M Heavy-Duty and 4R Series Tractors, further enhances the eHydro cruise control functions by allowing the operator to preset maximum speed. Once this feature is engaged, the operator must stroke the travel pedal fully to meet the operator’s preset speed and press the Set button to lock the speed. From there, the operator can use the automotive-style cruise controls to adjust speed. This function will improve accuracy and safety, particularly at lower travel speed applications.

Rotary tilling or spraying applications are examples of where SpeedMatch can be applied. SpeedMatch will work in both the forward and reverse set speeds.

NOTE: Automotive-style cruise control and SpeedMatch can be used in conjunction with LoadMatch to maximize productivity.

The optional field-installed 540/540 economy power take-off (PTO) allows operators to select the engine rpm needed for their PTO application. The economy position provides 540 rpm to the PTO at approximately 70 percent of the engine's normal rated speed. The engine runs at a rated speed of approximately 1750 rpm in the 540 economy position. The 540 economy is ideal for any PTO application, from running a mower to a baler or a cutter, where full horsepower is not needed. Operating at lower engine rpm decreases fuel costs during tasks. The overall operating experience improves because there is less noise and vibration for the operator.

A conveniently located lever (behind the seat of the tractor) allows the operator to simply change between 540 and 540E when conditions merit the opportunity to save fuel without affecting performance. For heavy-duty operations that require maximum PTO power, the PTO shift lever is placed in the 540 position, the PTO engaged, and the engine is run at rated speed of 2400 rpm. This selection gives 540 rpm to the PTO shaft and delivers the full-advertised horsepower at rated engine speed.

The 540/540 economy PTO offers all the features of the standard 540-rpm PTO, and the safety interlock
is a foolproof measure provided to compensate for operator oversight. When the tractor is in economy,
the engine is limited to a lower operating speed, preventing accidental over speeding of PTO implements
and protecting against binding the PTO shaft. The safety interlock also prevents accidental shifting of
the PTO selector lever at higher engine speeds than the economy PTO setting, which would lead to
downtime to fix implements or drivetrains.

Regular service and maintenance are essential to the performance, productivity, and longevity of the tractor.

  • Easy access to regular service points minimizes service time.
  • Easily removable cowl and side panels, improved hood design, and integrated maintenance position on the grille provide easy accessibility for routine maintenance.
  • Tractors are equipped with extensive onboard self-diagnostic capabilities and are fully compatible with John Deere’s exclusive Service ADVISOR™ system.
  • Daily service requirements are minimal and simple to accomplish. Most service interval requirements can be performed with a basic understanding of procedures and common tools.
  • Improved cost of ownership
    • Hydraulic oil service interval changed from 400 to 1200 hours (or 3 years) when using Hy-Gard™ products
Removable side panels Removable side panels
Integrated grille maintenance position Integrated grille maintenance position
Removable cowl Removable cowl

All items in the daily service schedule can be performed without the use of tools:

  • Engine oil, hydraulic oil, coolant level, and the water separator can be conveniently accessed
  • The engine can be easily accessed by simply raising the hood for more periodic maintenance checks
  • A single-point latch mechanism and self-contained leash ensure easy hood opening and closure

NOTE:  Always refer to the operator’s manual for complete maintenance and service recommendations.

One of the greatest customer concerns involves difficulty in attaching tractor implements. John Deere has addressed this issue with the iMatch Quick-Hitch.

The iMatch Quick-Hitch provides easy hookup and a guaranteed fit for all Category 1 implements that are designed to meet the ASAE Category 1 Standard S278.6 for quick-attach hitches.

  • All implements require a set of bushings in order for the attachment to fit and work properly with the iMatch Quick-Hitch. One set of bushings comes with the iMatch Quick-Hitch.

NOTE: In the picture above, you see the bushing set. These bushings allow the hooks on the iMatch and the pins on the implement to fit together properly. All other implements (box blades, tillers, rear blades, etc.) will require a set of bushings to enlarge the pin to fit with the iMatch hooks. Bushings of different lengths can be found in the parts system or through a bushing supplier (see dimensions below).

  • Upper bushing
    • Inside diameter: 0.76-0.77 in.
    • Outside diameter: 1.24-1.25 in.
  • Lower bushings
    • Inside diameter: 0.88 to 0.89 in.
    • Outside diameter: 1.43 to 1.44 in.

wonderful little tractor

5/5

I purchased my 4052R and H180 new over three years and 500 hours ago. I maintain about 30 acres, put up hay, clear brush, and all the associated miscellaneous tasks with this tractor. Knock on wood, but I have not had any major issues with the tractor. Yes I've had the miscellaneous broken hydraulic hoses/fittings, failed o-rings, broken AM/FM antenna; anyone familiar with a working tractor should realize these things are to be expected. I've also caused self-induced damage (broken headlight/grill, etc.). Everything was relatively easy to fix. I have had a reoccurring failure of the equalizer pin link on the H180 loader which appears to be a flaw and is a bit frustrating. Some of the negatives listed by other reviewers are in fact positives to me. For example, it takes all of three minutes to remove the grill and side engine panels - it's well thought-out and I'm not sure how it could be any simpler. The tractor is very maneuverable and powerful for it's size. Love the smooth hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulics will out-lift the tractor. I am 5'10" and 160 lbs, cab is very comfortable and ergonomic. Joystick and dealer installed hydraulic connection up the loader boom are much better than previous generations in terms of ergonomics and ease of use. Heat and AC work great and do wonderful in the Wyoming extremes. The throttle settings such as the one that automatically adjusts throttle to increase ground speed (very similar to a car's throttle), cruise control, load-match anti engine bog, are all very handy and useful. The plastics, glass, and machine overall is well-built and not "cheap." I got a kick out of the reviewer who said his 4052 was poor quality so he was going to get a 4066, which is essentially the same machine with a modification for a bit more horsepower out of the same engine. I'm not too big a fan of the egr/regen system, but it is what it is these days. At least no def is required. Still kindof a pain to regen occasionally.

Pros

  • numerous throttle/cruise control options
  • hitch assist
  • ergonomics
  • power
  • heat & ac
  • mfwd
  • free online parts book
  • stopping distance adjustment

Cons

  • parts & fluids cost

BeSt of the compact tractors and could use a few tweakS

4/5

I bought my 2015 model in August 2015 and it was built in May and I had them swap out the R4 tires for the R1 titan tires and I ended up purchasing the ergonomic seat cushions and air suspension seat and the 30° gas struts for the rear window instead of the 70° and got a custom short exhaust stack and an additional radiator screen and the rear work lights and radio. I used this tractor from 2015 until 2019 to do commercial bush hogging with a Woods Brush Bull BB 72X rotary cutter as well as a John Deere 509 commercial duty 5 foot rotary cutter. I also used a 40inch Rototiller and a 5 foot Rototiller on it and a box blade. It was a comfortable Tractor and it has good power and I love the load match feature that prevents the engine from bogging down when mowing tall vegetation! The regular daily cleaning of the cabin filter at the top back of the cab was not able to be done satisfactorily because of a small opening and a large air-conditioning condenser that I could not access without having the dealer remove the roof once or twice a year at a significant expense. The necessity to remove the front grill by lifting it out and takeoff the side panels and lift the hood instead of having a one piece hood and grill like on the 4020 series tractors required significantly more time and effort then should be the case. The hitch assist was a useful feature and I never had a problem with mine but I do wonder if telescoping Lake ends and or a quick-tatch hitch would have been adequate. The wiring and the mechanical front wheel drive shaft cover did get caught and pulled and torn and damaged from the work that I did and it would’ve been nice to have a one piece metal driveline cover and have the wiring be protected with metal covers with quick touch pins. Also, it is difficult to clean the radiator properly as there is not adequate space to get a snow broom in there and all the debris ends up collecting at the bottom so it really is necessary to use an air gun.

Pros

  • e-hydro
  • electronic engine and speed management system
  • quiet with epto option

Cons

  • cleaning of a/c condenser and cab filter
  • non one piece hood and grille
  • easily breakable antenna
  • windshield washer placement
  • drive shaft cover
  • witing underneath unprotected

disappointing and trading in at a loss

2/5

I bought this tractor in 2018. I maintain about 25 acres, and the tractor just does not have enough power for our farm and the hills. Around 50 hours had to go to the dealer for a cylinder leak. At 102 hours it had to go to the dealer for a transmission leak. At 120 hours (now) it went back for a rocker arm leak. My family has used John Deere products for years, but this one is disappointing. Difficult to open hood. Fenders are cheap and super easy to break. I'm trading it in for a 4066R and will try again, but it's costing me for sure.

Pros

  • easy of changing implements.
  • ease of use.
  • nice cab.

Cons

  • poor quality.

A versatile and surprisingly powerful compact tractor

5/5

I have a cab 4052R with a 440 loader with almost 200 hours on it and have had the tractor for just over one year. I am about 5-10 and 155 lbs. and the cab fits me fine although I think someone over 6 feet tall might have issues. The tractor is powerful for a 52 hp tractor and is very maneuverable for a MFWD tractor. The hydraulics are also quite strong for a tractor this size. The AC in the cab will freeze you and it is hot where I live. I have had an AC belt shred on me and the hitch assist stopped working but have not had any major issues with the tractor. The seat is comfortable and I can spend all day in the tractor in comfort. The quality of the John Deere tractor is there and I highly recommend the 4052R.

Multiple breakdowns

2/5

I have thus far been disappointed with my 4052r due to multiple breakdowns. Fan belt broke the first week, hydraulic fitting the first year and then an electrical issue with over 4 months of the tractor being at the dealer. Then it was the backup assist. Now it has a solenoid issue causing it to shut down when reversing. When it runs it’s great but reliability is a major concern.

Pros

  • cab is comfortable
  • good power

POOR ERGONOMICS and tight cab

3/5

I put about a hundred hours a month on the tractor, so you could say I spend a lot of time in it. This tractor was purchased to replace a 2000 John Deere 4600 with nearly 5000 hours. I'll be overhauling the 4600 since I like it so much. This tractor, not so much. I'm 6'1" tall, and 225 lbs, and the cab is very uncomfortable for me. While my left calf is hitting the parking brake lever (if it's not tripping me up as I enter and exit the tractor), my right calf is getting constantly poked by the metal end of the joystick lock. I've resorted to taping a piece of foam over the joystick lock, and also fabricating a spacer under the seat frame to lift me up a couple of inches, and back as far as possible to gain a little more room. Then, I tilted the seat up in front so the back rest is not so vertical that it pushes me in a way that gives me a crotch wedgie (ouch). I appreciate the cab, AC, and heat, but if given the choice, I'll be using my 4600 whenever possible.

Pros

  • it's pretty

Cons

  • it's painful to drive for extended periods

Rear Fender Cracked

5/5

Filling up my brand new tractor for the first time, the rear fender cracked in two places. Had a 5 gallon gas container and it was resting on the fender while I was filling it up and heard a unusual noise which was the cracking. John Deere is covering it under warranty , just be careful. The gas tank needs to be redesigned , it is not easy to put fuel in the tractor.

Perfect for any job

5/5

I bought the 4052R last November and I have been able to use it in all kinds of weather, all kinds of terrain for all kinds of jobs. Snow removal, grading, and field cutting is what I do mostly, and it’s been the perfect size and very easy to use. Highly recommend this.

Great tractor

5/5

I purchased a 4052R with H180 loader over a year ago. I am very happy with the tractor. It maneuvers in tight areas well and has a great turning radius for a MFWD. I can take the H180 loader off in about 2 minuets. The controls are all easy to reach and the tractor handles well. The air ride seat is a sweet option that I would recommend. I have not had to do anything to the tractor other than the regular service. Defiantly John Deere quality. I would recommend this tractor to anyone in the market for a tractor of this size. The only two things I see that need to be addressed are: A six plug single point hookup for the H180 loader, I have to plug in my aux hoses for my grapple separately. Also the dual rear remote option for the open station tractor looks like an after thought and should be mounted lower and more in the center of the tractor like the larger tractors.

Pros

  • easy to operate
  • easy to remove loader
  • comfortable

Five Oak Farms

4/5

I bought a new 4052r with cab and implements in July. I love the tractor but it has been back to the dealership twice and it has 20 hours on it. First was for a locked up water pump that destroyed all the belts and the ECU(engine control unit) harness. Now it's at the dealership again with a bad sensor on the hydro trans that prevents the tractor from moving. That's right...it will not move. I love the tractor. It's easy to handle, has great power and is fun to operate. I am concerned that it is having so many issues so soon. I'm hoping this isn't a glimpse into the future for maintenance issues. I'm also hoping there isn't a systemic quality issue with the 4R series.

Great tractor

5/5

I have owned several tractors in this size range, and the 4052R is the best of the bunch. Ideal size for my needs. I have a H180 loader and find it extremely easy to control and finesse. The feature where you can reverse the tractor by pressing a button while standing next to it is fantastic. Makes it much easier to hook up implements. Tractor is very maneuverable and easy to drive. So far, nothing has broken - this was one of the very first 4052Rs made. It is wonderful to start the tractor and not have the barn fill up with smoke and stinky fumes. The Tier 4 emissions controls work great and so far have not caused any problems. Another reviewer complained about noise. I don't have a radio or the cab - maybe you would find it noisy if you wanted to listen to classical music while operating the tractor. Or, maybe the cab traps the noise. To me, it just sounds like the other tractors I have owned. Some of the controls have markings which I find a mysterious until I look them up in the manual. The fuel filler cap is too high for me - I can't see the level of diesel in the tank when I am filling it, and I am nervously awaiting my first diesel overflow. The chrome hood ornament has elicited smarty remarks from some of my friends. The manual says there are 8 rear wheel width settings and tells you the widths, but offers no explanation of how to change it.

3rd John Deere compact tractor

4/5

I've had a 2720, 3720, and now this 4052r Cab tractor. I use this for planting food plots in the spring, mowing in the summer and hauling and splitting wood in the winter. I also have a snowblower for the rear PTO that works well to clear our 300 foot driveway. I have the H180 self leveling loader with a 4:1 bucket which is a bit of a beast and made the tractor more than a bit front heavy. I put liquid ballast in the rear tires and it has balanced the tractor out very well. Having a large implement on the rear 3pt wasnt enough to balance the tractor. I wouldn't recommend this tractor and front loader without the liquid ballast or wheel weights. Overall I've been very satisfied with the tractor, especially the comfort cab. The 3720 was a bit more responsive and nimble making it funner for loader work but I'd happily trade that for the comfort cab and larger frame and horse power. One very nice feature on my 4052r is the tractor controls on the rear fender to assist with connecting implements. No more going back and forth from the operator console to move the tractor in forward or reverse or raise and lower the 3pt.

Excellent Tractor

4/5

As I just got this tractor and I am still finding things out about it, there are a few things that due stand out. First I Had a Bobcat Skid steer 185s before this one, my brother has a Case 580, and my neighbor has a Kubota and none of them even come close to being as quiet as this tractor is. I due agree that the left side door where the battery box is does need a step otherwise it is just a really big door opening which you don't want to leave open and break the door off. The inside of the cab is extremely nice, but for the novice like me will take some time to get used to.I did notice that the handle for the rear window seems very cheap and appears that it would not take much time to wear and break.

Pros

  • cab air/heat and quiet. john deer quality

Cons

  • no step on left side
  • cheap handle on rear window

Not so great of a tractor

2/5

This is a very loud tractor! Even with the factory cab, at full engine RPM, it is one of the loudest tractors I have ever operated. If you want to listen to the Jensen stereo (with its less than impressive speakers) you must have the radio volume near its maximum setting and that just adds to the already overwhelming noise. Fuel economy is not the greatest with this tractor, either. Although I appreciate the external 3-point hitch control, I find it more difficult to use and less intuitive than the fender-mounted rocker switches on larger tractors. I also think the hitch assist (ground positioning) feature is too “gimmicky” and could have easily been replaced by providing telescopic draft links. The hitch capacity is also only 2500 pounds which is low compared to the competition. The 3-point hitch control on the console is a difficult-to-precisely-control little nub of a lever and there is no draft control, even as an option. Operator controls are spread throughout the cab rather than being clustered in a common area. The parking brake and range shifter are to the left of the seat, the throttle and 4X4 engagement lever are on the dash and most other controls are on the right side console. Ideally, all these controls would be consolidated to the right hand console to make operation easier. The tractor also makes one wonder “why” to a number of the features Deere brought forth from the previous series without change. Why make a compact tractor 2 inches too tall to fit under an eight foot tall garage door? Why put a right hand door on the cab without steps and a hand rail to close the door from inside the cab? Why require a hydrostatic transmission to get a cab? Overall, the 4052R is a fair tractor but not great by any means. It is a warmed over version of a now aging platform and design and is being outpaced by competitors for standard equipment and options. This tractor will likely have a very short stay in my shed before it is replaced.

Pros

  • yanmar engine

Cons

  • loud
  • control layout
  • gimmicky positioning system
  • 3-point capacity and controls
  • bumpy ride

Rolls Royce of Tractors

5/5

I traded my 3320 in on this tractor all that I can say is what a machine. This is a very powerful machine and with the H180 self leveling loader you couldn't ask for more in a tractor. The tractor does need to be ballast as the rear is light if using the loader. My 3320 was a very nice tractor but this is like comparing a ford pinto to a rolls royce.

Pros

  • powerful
  • comfortable
  • easy to operate

Cons

  • light rear end

The evolution of the Compact Utility Tractor is complete…..

5/5

I have been a brochure studying fan of John Deere tractors since 1987 and have studied John Deere tractors back through to the 1970's. Apart from the John Deere Task Master 1050 3 cylinder turbo diesel large frame compact utility tractor, I have not really seen a large farm C.U.T which has met all of my needs. The 1070 was great EXCEPT that the visibility to the rear was poor due to the rear mounter fuel tank and low mounted seat and I did not like the loader handle( I prefer the straight one on the 770 and 790 tractors) The 4052 R open station tractor which I just climbed all over has excited me like I have not been excited since the 2002 JD 7000 TEN series. It is PERFECT ( Though I wide it had a turbo charged John Deere diesel engine, a turbo Yanmar will work just fine!) The loader handle has an electro hydraulic servo feel to it when moving it, there is plastic in all the places where is is, but now connected to firm metal linkages, such as in the range shifter, the steering wheel tilt lever and elsewhere. The buttons are durable soft touch buttons or durable but not hard feeling plastic switches. The swiveling (both sides) seat and perfectly acceptable rear visibility, despite a rear mounted fuel tank are great! There is even a ground fender control to assist with hitch hookup. Apart from my 1987 John Deere 1050, this is my next tractor. The cab even has been perfected, like the 5EN series, VERY comfy (they got the seat right this time) and the visibility is good. I could see buying it with a cab or without and being VERY happy either way! Excellent work John Deere! Thank you. You have, like the 1590 no till drill, reached perfection. DON'T MESS WITH IT! (unless you swap out the turbo final tier IV compliant Yanmar for a John Deere equivalent engine ;0)

Pros

  • perfect

Cons

  • yanmar instead of john deere engine
